Methods: TAC PAC

Introducing TAC PAC
TAC PAC stands for "Tactile Approach to Communication".
TAC PAC aims to provide an effective method of communication for those with profound multiple learning difficulties.
The method has been initially designed for parents with very special children. It involves tactile activities on a musical background. Each activity has its specific tempo and rhythm. There are 3 types of activities, each of them having specific materials and appropriate music.

Instruments
- small household objects with tactile effect
- 3 tape records with instrumental music
- the TAC PAC record in order to register the child’s responses

Work procedure
Main principles:
- Get comfortable and warm!
- Don't let anything disturb you!
- Don't rush!
- Relax and have fun!

Working can be done:
- individually
- in pairs

Outcomes
The goal is to heighten levels of awareness and to promote responses to stimuli. Consequently, the very special child will experience body awareness and spatial orientation.
Some references to the National Curriculum may be useful, if this method is seen as a way of implementing some of the National Curriculum objectives.
